Learn More About Liposuction

There is no shame in wanting a trim and toned body, but if you have been following a carefully controlled diet as well as slogging it out in the gym and all to no avail, you may feel like you have ran out of options.

If despite your best efforts you find that exercises do not help to reduce your problem areas then it may be worth considering liposuction and body shaping surgery.

Liposuction is a procedure which is widely used to improve your body shape by removing unwanted fat from specific areas of the body. As your body grows older you are more likely to store fat in specific areas and despite vigorous exercise and dieting it is sometimes too difficult to shift this excess weight.

Parts of the body that are commonly affected include the stomach, thighs and hips; however, the flexibility of liposuction allows you to target areas specific to your body and its shape.

Liposuction is a procedure that was developed to help individuals remove unwanted fat from the specific areas that cannot be improved with diet and exercise. By removing excess fat you can essentially shape your body in order to help you feel more comfortable in your own skin, and overall feel more confident about your appearance.

If you are thinking about having liposuction then the first thing you should do is choose a surgeon and organisation where you want to have the procedure carried out. As you would with any other medical process, do a little bit of homework first of all and make sure you feel comfortable with your choice.

Location is a key factor to consider at this point, as you don’t want to travel a long distance or overseas for any surgery unless you are completely comfortable with the follow-up arrangements. It’s best to use a surgeon located within a relatively close proximity so aftercare can be easily organised.

The next step is to go along for a consultation where you can discuss the areas you want to target and what results you expect from the procedure. Talking these details through gives you a realistic idea of what is actually possible as it’s important to ensure you are completely happy with the procedure and outcome before you make the final decision.

Once you have decided to go ahead with liposuction you need to schedule in a date for the procedure to take place. It makes sense to do this at a time where other things in life are at a constant, so it’s best to not schedule your liposuction when you’re doing things such as caring for a new baby, changing job or moving house.

Being able to focus all your efforts on the liposuction procedure and recuperation afterwards means your recovery will be quicker.

Everything you Need to Know About Liposuction

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is the aspiration of fat through chirurgical operation. A small incision is made in the superficial or deep subcutaneous fat. It is the most frequent esthetic operation.
How long is the hospitalization?

A minor liposuction doesn’t even require hospitalization, can be performed under ambulatory regime. A more important liposuction (when more than a1 kilogram of fat is extracted) requires 48 hour medical surveillance.

Body areas on which liposuction is performed. The most frequent areas are the hips and thighs. It is performed also around the neck, breasts, abdomen and knees.
How is it performed?

Usually it’s performed under general anesthesia, but it can be performed occasionally under local anesthesia. Small incisions are made in hidden areas which allow the introduction of special medical instruments. The fat layer is first fluidized through the injection of a mix of substances. Subsequently the suction machine is inserted and the unwanted fat layer is removed.
How long is the intervention?

The area that is subjected to the chirurgical procedure is protected by a special bandage, very tightly applied. This special bandage has the role of forming a new contour of the figure or of the area on which the procedure was performed, prevents the accumulation of blood or other fluids in the suctioned area. This special bandage must be continuously worn for two weeks after the chirurgical intervention and most of the time for another month after that. Physical effort is forbidden in this time.
Other methods of liposuction:

Ultrasound liposuction – Ultrasounds are used to fragment the fat layer. The suction procedure will be faster and cleaner, but skin burn can appear in the areas with a thicker fat layer.

Oscillating liposuction – The fat layer is mechanically destroyed through the insertion of a tube that produces high frequency vibrations. Thus the fat layer is rapidly removed and the risk of skin burn is avoided.
What procedure do I choose?

The procedure is determined by a combination of factors: the area on which the intervention is being made, the quantity of fat that is to be removed, total weight, skin consistency and muscular tonus, the type of distribution of the fat deposits, medical history, food habits, the existence of a medical treatment in progress? The procedure will be chosen together with the plastic surgeon.
Where is the liposuction performed?

Liposuction is a procedure with which the dermatology – esthetics – esthetic surgery section is responsible. Therefore it is performed in the esthetic surgery clinics.

Common Misconceptions About Liposuction

Common Misconceptions About Liposuction

Liposuction is among the most requested cosmetic plastic surgeries available. However, for prospective candidates, it may also be the most misunderstood. If you’re considering liposuction, make sure the decision is based on the facts. Learn more about liposuction and get acquainted with common misconceptions.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction is the surgical removal of fat cells from targeted areas of the body. It can be performed in many locations, most commonly the abdomen, hips, thighs and buttocks. Liposuction is often combined with other plastic surgery procedures, such as facial plastic surgery or abdominoplasty, for enhanced results.

There are a few different liposuction procedures, each with the same goal in mind. Tumescent liposuction is widely recommended by most plastic surgeons. It resembles the original method, only it is safer and more successful.

During tumescent liposuction, a saline solution with anesthesia, epinephrine and other medication is injected into the targeted area of the body. The solution eases the removal of fat and minimizes bleeding. The fat is removed through a surgical tube, called a cannula.

Other types of cosmetic liposuction surgery include power assisted, ultrasonic and laser liposuction. Each is accompanied by its own set of benefits and limitations. Be sure to ask your doctor about the different procedures.

Common Misconceptions About Liposuction: Can I Accumulate More Fat After Liposuction?

Liposuction rids the body of some fat cells and you never accumulate more than are already present in the body. However, this does not spare you from potential weight gain. Controlled eating habits and regular exercise are essential to maintaining the benefits of liposuction. If you start to gain weight, it can show up in treated and untreated areas of the body.

Common Misconceptions About Liposuction and Weight Loss

Liposuction is not a substitute for proper diet and exercise. Candidates for liposuction should be close to his or her ideal weight, with stubborn fat deposits that are not responding to tried and true methods. Liposuction is best understood as a body contouring procedure, rather than a weight loss tool. Patients will lose some weight, but the fat doesn’t weigh that much to begin with.

Common Misconceptions About Liposuction and Cellulite

Connective tissues are located directly below the skin. They attach to and shape fat. When connective tissues become weak, the result is cellulite. Liposuction rids the body of fat, not cellulite. In fact, it can make cellulite look worse.

Common Misconceptions About and Liposuction and Contouring

Liposuction can remove the fat cells, but it can’t treat loose skin and muscles. If you’re looking to tighten the skin, it may be necessary to combine liposuction with another plastic surgery procedure, such as a tummy tuck. A tummy tuck can reshape the muscles and remove excess skin.

Common Misconceptions About Liposuction: Results

You will not notice liposuction results immediately. At first, many patients actually experience weight gain because of fluid retention. Liposuction yields gradual results, from several weeks up to four months.

Schedule a Consultation With a Qualified Cosmetic Surgeon

Meet with an experienced, board certified plastic surgeon to discuss your options for liposuction. Describe your dissatisfaction and expected results. The doctor will conduct a medical examination and evaluate your risk prior to the procedure. For more information about liposuction, or for help finding a qualified surgeon, visit DocShop.com.

Additional plastic surgery may be necessary after having liposuction, such as a tummy tuck. Cosmetic plastic surgery can also treat other areas of the body. Facial plastic surgery is one such operation that alters the face for a more youthful appearance.

Something about Liposuction

Something about Liposuction

Something about……
Liposuction
Liposuction continues to the most common plastic surgery procedure all over the world, and also in India. It is basically a permanent removal of fat cells by the use of a suctioning device. It is a safe procedure, with minimum down time, and fast recovery. It has been shrouded in small controversies, and bad results, but this has been due to the procedure being done by untrained personnel, and other medicos who are not Cosmetic Surgeons. So it is important that a potential client look through the profile of their treating physician and asses really whether that person is actually capable of delivering all that he promises. Do not be led away by claims that they can remove 10 kgs or 12 kgs of fat and make you superthin. Please remember that the safe limits of liposuction are between 3-5% of the total body weight.
Procedure
The procedure involves infiltration of fluid into the areas to be liposuctioned. This has multiple benefits. It helps to loosen the fat, reduces the bleeding dramatically, and allows pain control after surgery as well. Usually I would infiltrate fluid in a ratio of 1:1 with the amount of fat that I plan to aspirate, ie, if I feel that I will aspirate about 1000 cc of fat from an area, I would like to infiltrate less than 10000 cc of the fluid in that area. I actually infiltrate much less than that, only about 0.5 :1 ratio. This has the benefit that I never face the risk of fluid overload ( potentially dangerous condition, where there is too much water in the body, and the lungs get filled with water). The other benefit is that, what is aspirated is pure fat, and not water mixed with fat. This gives an exact estimate of the amount of fat taken out. We surgeons have a bad habit of including the amount of fluid aspirated into the total volume taken out also, so that we can boast of having done large liposuctions. What is important is not the amount taken out, but how much of actual fat there is.
The procedure is done with small incisions over selected areas of the body, after first discussing with the patient, and planning the site of the incision. These incisions generally are not visible and heal very well. They are only about ½ cm in length. There may not be a need to admit the patient in the hospital, so that the patient can go home the same day.

Precautions
After a liposuction, there is a need to wear specially designed pressure garment, over the areas liposuctioned to allow better skin redraping. This may take upto 6 weeks. Any anticoagulant use such as aspirin should be stopped 1 week prior to surgery; smoking should also be stopped 2 weeks before to 2 weeks after surgery for best results
Newer technology
Power liposuction, vibro-liposuction, VASER, and laser liposuction are some of the newer innovations in this field.
In Power and Vibro Liposuction the mechanical effort to carry out liposuction is reduced by the use of special machines, which produce a to and fro rapid motion, thus reducing mechanical fatigue and making the procedure faster. However these are significantly more expensive than conventional liposuction
VASER is the use of internal ultrasound device to melt fat. The advantage is that this is significantly faster, and allows the surgeon to work closer to the skin, and thus better skin draping is achieved, and thus better figure control is achieved. However this is a very expensive device, and expects the surgical cost to double if you ask for a VASER.
Laser lipo allows very good redraping action on the skin; however its role in actual fat reduction is a bit controversial. Thus this has not found use in general practice.
Please remember that liposuction is not a weight reducing procedure, but a figure correcting/ or a body contouring procedure

More Things You Should Know About Liposuction

If you are undecided about where or how to get a good liposuction surgeon, you can patronize several sources such as the internet or get a referral. Your personal doctor can give you a referral to an excellent liposuction surgeon. You can also get a tangible idea about how to get a good plastic surgeon from your general practitioner.

A person who is suffering from AIDS is a very poor candidate for liposuction because the immune system has been jeopardized. If an AIDS sufferer falls ill before a liposuction operation, death may follow because of the weak immune system. If you have AIDS, try and stick to more conventional ways of weight loss.

It’s not all joy and happiness as far as liposuction is concerned. There are often complications, just like any other thing in life. One common surgical complication in a liposuction is pulmonary edema. Pulmonary edema is the formation of a blood clot in the process of a liposuction and the sojourn of that blood clot to areas of the body such as the leg or the heart. When a blood clot gets to the heart, it becomes total and may end up killing a liposuction patient.

Liposuction is a form of surgery that is not limited to the theater. It can be done in a doctor’s office or an out patient center if it is not a complicated one. This type of liposuction is generally not expensive.

Liposuction is a process of removing fat from the body but it is not a substitute for diets and exercise. Taking diets that are nutritionally rich helps keep the body in shape and going for regular exercises enable the body to stay fit. Liposuction is expected to be the last option after diet and exercise have failed.

Patients who undergo liposuction feel depressed often. It is worse when it is about three days after surgery. Sometimes the depression lasts for weeks.

Before you go in for liposuction, define clearly your goals as this will help you select the appropriate technique for your surgery better. If you are not sure about what to expect from a liposuction procedure, don’t hesitate to ask questions and get informative answer. With liposuction, the more information you equip yourself with, the less ill at ease you will feel.

The cost for a liposuction procedure will be hinged on how much liposuction you want performed on your body. The cost of liposuction may also be dictated by the doctor who performs it or the location of the practice.
